Explanation • To show changes in RIASEC theory and applications as time goes on • Examine change in number of publications over time given the rise in postmodernism • Examine publications related to application of diverse settings, countries, conditions and people • For researchers, practitioners, and others to see and utilize sources of new knowledge which will inform theory developments, practice, and the career development field

Previous Bibliography • 1609 references between 1953 and 2007 • Peaks in references during 1980, 1985, 1986, 1988, and 2005 • Sharp increase in references after 1971 • Applications category represented 44% of the references; Alternative forms represented less than 4% • References found in 197 journals worldwide; 544 references in 6 significant journals • Shared via DigiTool

Method Extension done to update the previous bibliography and make it more accessible to scholars and practitioners • Use FSU Library Website and search through common database search engines: • ProQuest • JSTOR • ISI Web of Science/Web of Knowledge • Use print resources to find references not in online databases • Use RefWorks to manage and share data

  9. Discussion • Focus of reference citations are on applying it in practice • Research represents diverse populations well • No evidence of drop off in the amount off in amount of works • Useful tool for researchers and practitioners

  10. Implications • Structured matching models, especially Holland’s RIASEC typological theory, will continue to hold promise for scholars and practitioners in vocational psychology and guidance throughout the world. • The extensive body of work related to Holland's RIASEC theory can be intimidating for those contemplating investigations in this area, but we hope that tools like this bibliographic database will make such research more manageable and increase the quality of the studies undertaken.
