  2. Advisement • Meet with your advisor about your classes. • Use this time to apply for colleges, scholarships, financial aid, etc. • Know your handbook! • Ask questions! • Study…Keep your grades up!

  3. Applications/College Admission • GaCollege411 • Apply to more than one college – usually no later than Oct/Nov. • Early admissions deadline – usually October. *November 6th* • Online. • Be neat and use ink! • Keep copies of everything. • Essay and Community Service make a difference!

  4. Resume • Work on a personal resume. • Used for job interviews, college/scholarship applications, and to help teachers with letters of recommendation. • Get busy today! • Think about what needs to be included very carefully!

  5. Letters of Recommendation • Will need these letters for college/scholarship applications. • Positive attitude, cooperative, dependable, and good work habits are important. • Give the writer a copy of the resume. • Give teachers prior notice (one month is appreciated)

  6. Attention!!! Deadlines are important!

  7. Grades • Make good grades! • Valedictorian/Salutatorian/Honor Graduate – cutoff is 3rd eight weeks. • ACCEL students only get one semester grade for college classes. • Make every grade count! • Valedictorian/STAR Student – No longer get Governor’s Scholarship.

  8. College Visitation/Pre-Arranged Absence • One pre-arranged absence during your senior year. Must be approved before you visit. • Open House/Appointment. • Plan ahead. Don’t just show up!

  9. Financial Aid FAFSA/HOPE/Scholarships • November – Complete the FAFSA 4 Caster at www.fafsa.ed.gov to get an estimate of financial aid eligibility. • January – Complete FAFSA. • HOPE • Scholarships • Make sure that I receive a copy of all scholarship award letters. I must have a copy on file in order to recognize your scholarship at Honor’s Night or Graduation.

SAT/ACT • Register: SAT – www.collegeboard.com • Register: ACT – www.actstudent.org • Additional practice site: www.gacollege411.org • I can give you a practice booklet for the SAT/ACT. • Fee waiver program. • SAT 1500 Club – one sitting; April 1st deadline • ACCEL Program – Take the SAT if you are interested in participating in ACCEL during second semester. Registration opens in October. You must have the required score in October in order to start the ACCEL process.

  11. Military • Lunch visits. • Opt out form. • College options.

  12. STAR Student • Last date to take the SAT for STAR student – usually November in order for scores to get back before December deadline. • One Sitting.
