Wilderness First Aid: Effective Casualty Packaging and Environmental Protection

In this Wilderness First Aid session, participants will learn to monitor and record essential medical information while effectively using emergency kits to package unconscious casualties against adverse environmental conditions. By the end of the training, every group is expected to demonstrate the ability to insulate casualties using survival equipment like space blankets, survival bags, and warm clothing. Activities include ABC drills, practical casualty packaging, and preparation for safe movement of incapacitated individuals, ensuring ongoing monitoring throughout the process.

  4. Success Criterion: By the end of this session every group should be able to: • Use emergency equipment to insulate an unconscious or incapacitated casualty.

  5. Activities: • Revision: • - ABC Drills • - Approaching a Casualty • Practical: Casualty packaging • Practice: Casualty monitoring

  6. Casualty packaging • Insulate & protect a casualty from harmful environmental conditions • Ground • Air (wind, rain/snow) • Prepare a casualty for movement • Casualty still needs to be monitored

  7. Kit: • Survival Bag • Space blanket • Sleeping mat • Sleeping bag • Blizzard Bag • Warm/dry clothing • USE CASUALTY’S OWN KIT
