  4. General Cornwallis is the red line which represents the british.His objective was to takeover the colonies by moving north from Charleston.

  5. The proclamation line of 1763 ran along the appalachian mountains.

  6. First battle Although the minutemen were defeated, they showed that they were willing and able to fight. Known as “THE SHOT HEARD ‘ROUND THE WORLD” Battle of lexington and concord

First battle in North Carolina Fought between NC loyalists and patriots Patriot forces were led by Richard Caswell, who would later become the first governor of the independent state of NC The victory encouraged the colony to declare independence. Prevented the British from attacking in the South until later in the war. Battle of moore’s creek bridge

  8. Known as the “TURNING POINT” of the war, this patriot victory would cause France and Spain to declare war against Britain. They brought much needed supplies, troops, a strong navy, and hope to the colonial cause. Battle of saratoga

  9. Battle of guilford courthouse British Victory Colonial General Nathaniel Greene would retreat from the battlefield. Patriot Victory Cornwallis lost ¼ of his soldiers. He would retreat to Wilmington and be defeated in his next attack at Yorktown
