  2. Best Evidence Synthesis • Timperley et al., 2007 highlights quality teaching as the main in- school influence on student learning • Quality teaching is closely followed by effective (distributed) school leadership focussed on leading and learning

  3. The recent past – how we got to where we are • Staffing Review 2009 • Office of the Auditor General report 2008 • Education Review Office reviews of professional learning • CAB Min (10) 24/11 • Phase 1 & 2 of the redesign of PLD

Accessing PLD • Previously PLD providers hosted multi-page adverts in the Education Gazette • Current provision needs multi-channel approach – we can do better • Education Gazette notice was too generic • Regional information sessions did not reach wide enough audience • Kura and schools which have been prioritised should be directly approached by Senior Advisor • Schools complete a request for support form • http:/nzcurriculum.tki.org.nz/Systems-of-support

Prioritisation • Schools are prioritised according to need – as identified by National Standards or NCEA • Regional and local offices factor in ERO review, contributing (i.e. feeder) schools and local knowledge • A Regional Allocation Committee makes decisions that take into account capacity and previous allocations. • Some schedules do not fit this design e.g. BeL • Maori medium PLD

  6. PLD in 2014 • All current PLD contracts expire at the end of this year • Where practicable current schedules (learning areas) will continue into 2014 • The regional prioritisation and allocation process is scheduled for completion by 31 October – kura and schools notified the following week
