United states government By: Simone Rodney and Delaney Gilmour
Development of the constitution: • The development of the constitution is necessary because it protects our rights and freedoms. Also, it gives us something to base our government on today! The constitution keeps order in every aspect of the U.S. The Constitution also keeps order and makes sure that everything stays balanced, also making sure that the government doesn’t get to much power and everyone is working together! The Constitution keeps stability and allows us to make decisions off of the Constitution. A big reason that the Constitution was developed is because the original government plan, Articles of Confederation, failed. The Constitution is still affecting our world today and is playing just as big of a role as it did when it was first created.
Limited Government: • Federal appeals court denies bail to NYC police officer in cannibalism case. Police officer is charged with planning to rape, kill and then eat women. • This is limited government because it is representing that everyone has to obey the laws no matter what your position is in society.
Individual rights: • Electroshock torture handcuffs are now legal protections. The handcuffs send a shocking torture, gas injections, and chemical restraints to prisoners through a remote control. • This is an example of individual rights because individual rights guarantees us certain rights/freedoms and electroshock handcuffs are an example of cruel and unusual punishment which is breaking the law.
Popular sovereignty: • Voters approve same sex marriage for the first time. The ballot box is showing American’s changing attitudes about same sex marriage. Maryland and Maine now allow these couples to tie the knot. • This is an example of popular sovereignty because it is a government where the people rule and voting is the people making decisions for the U.S. • http://cnn.com/video/#/video/politics/2012/11/07/election-tammy-baldwin.wisn
Our proposal: • Our proposal is to create a board game targeting younger (elementary aged) children. We plan to target younger children because the younger that you learn a skill the faster you pick it up and the better you will be when you get older…just like in a sport. We plan to make the board game a model of the game Quelf.
