REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA STATE STATISTICAL OFFICE The history of gender statistics development • Participation at the Forth World Conference on Women (Beijing,1995) raised our understanding of the gender mainstreaming; • Since the Beijing Conference considerable efforts have been made in developing a gender statistical program; • The State Statistical Office ensures the regular production of a statistical publication on gender; Gender statistics is a relatively new area of study relating to traditional areas of statistics as well as the statistical system as a whole.

REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA STATE STATISTICAL OFFICE Lessons learned • Commitment to development of gender statistics by all managerial levels is crucial; • Cooperation with all ”players”, in order to improve transparency of measurement of gender statistics, is very important; • Harmonisation efforts are needed; • Monitoring process of all activities is necessary; • Dissemination of indicators in a way to reach as many users as possible; • Present it in a way that users can relate it to their own interests;
