  1. Warm Up 13 • What are some things that make Earth unique? • What is ecology?

  2. Warm Up # 14 • List as many species as you can. • What do you know about the term ecosystem?

  3. Warm up #15 • What are some things all ecosystems need? • Name the different levels of ecological organization from smallest to largest.

  4. 3) Draw a made up ecosystem and label all parts either biotic or abiotic.

  5. Warm Up # 16 • What is a POPULATION? 2) How is a COMMUNITY different from a POPULATION? 3)What do you think are some things we can study about a POPULATION? (For instance, squirrels in Audubon)

  6. Warm Up 17 (6 Questions) • Describe the population density (high or low) in a) and b) a) b)

  7. 2) List 2 advantages and 2 disadvantages of highpopulation density?

  8. 3) Describe what you see in the 3 diagrams and how they are similar and different.

  9. 4) What is the SEX RATIO in this room? 5) Describe 1 way scientists are able to sample a population and measure population size. 6) Assume you “tagged” 100 fish in a pond. Over the next several months, after 20 fishing trips, you had a mean of 10% “tagged,” what is your estimated population size?

  10. Warm Up 18 1) Explain what you see on this chart.

  11. 2) Why do you think trees drops so many seeds?

  12. 3) What do you see in this chart?

  13. 4) Which has the highest population density? • 30 ants/100 square meters • 1 ant/1 square meter • 500 ants / 5000 square meters • 50 ants/ 30 square meters

  14. Warm Up 19 (5 questions) 1) List the limiting factor(s) for why • Audubon does not have Palm Trees • Deserts are not full of plants • There are not more predators like wolves • There are not many more Oak Trees • Large trees do not grow in polar regions

  15. 2) Explain what this chart shows us.

  16. 3) Which has greater biotic potential? • Ducks • Polar Bears • Bacteria

  17. 4) A turtle may lay 50 eggs, but only 1 or 2 may make it to be an adult. What type of survivorship is that?

  18. 5) Orangutans:Females Mature 10 yearsBirth to single babies once every eight yearsWhat type of survivorship do you think it has?

  19. Warm up 20 • Give an example of a population. • Describe the following terms in your own words: a) populationsize b) Population density c) Population distribution d) survivorship e) limiting factors f) biotic potential.
