  4. 1. They obtain (get) & use resources for energy • Food, oxygen, water • Need these to grow, develop, repair • Autotrophs – Make their own food through photosynthesis (producers) • Heterotrophs – Seek out other food sources (consumers) • Respiration – Breaking down food into energy

  5. What resources do you obtain in a day?

  6. 2. They respond to stimuli • Stimulus – a change in surroundings that makes an organism react • Response – What the organism does to react to a stimuli

  8. 3. They Reproduce • Offspring – similar characteristics as parents Two types • Asexual – one parent/offspring is genetically identical to parent • Sexual – two parents – egg (female) & sperm (male) combine to make an offspring different from parents
