  3. Future tense—regular verbs • To conjugate a regular verb in the future tense: • *Keep the verb in the infinitive form • Add the endings • ALL regular –ar, -er, -ir verbs in the future have the same endings

  4. Future tense—regular verbs • Regular future verb endings: SSingularPlural 1st é 1st emos 2nd ás 2nd éis 3rd á 3rd án • All have accents except 1st plural (nosotros)

  5. Future tense—irregulars • Irregular verbs lose their endings (-ar/-er/-ir) and have spelling changes in the stem. • Irregular verbs use regular future tense endings!

Future tense--irregulars Irregular stem verbs: • Combine stem with regular endings! • decir dir- will say/tell • hacer har- will do/make • poder  podr- will be able to • querer  querr- will wish/want • saber  sabr- will know • salir  saldr- will leave/go out • tener  tendr- will have • venir  vendr- will come • poner pondr- will put, place

  7. Finalmente • Habrá—There will be (future of hay—there is/there are) • Only one word makes the future tense, so the English words will and shall are understood! (Like am/are, was/were, do/did) • Think of the ending as the will/shall! • (é, ás, á, emos, éis, án=will/shall)
