Over the past year, Dr. Zinhle Makatini and the Laboratory Operational Team achieved significant milestones, including initiating a contract with Lancet Lab for essential services like CD4 and HIV RNA testing and establishing comprehensive lab procedures. Personnel training at Mil and Mtubatuba was also prioritized. Looking ahead, the team will evaluate its composition, transition funding management to SAIC, and enhance laboratory capabilities, ensuring effective communication for the success of Project Phidisa in the coming year.

Transition Strategy for Funding Lancet Contract • Current Status – HJF administers funding of the Lancet contract • Preparation for change – Scientific Application International Corporation (SAIC) to administer funding for the Lancet • Transition from HJF to SAIC projected to take 3-4 months • Line of communication for Lancet Laboratory will continue to go through the Phidisa Laboratory Director Dr Z Makatini
Lab Infrastructure at SAMHS • Creation of a repository within the SAMHS is the next most important task. Requirements - Building permits - Operational - Facility - Personnel - Data base

Concluding Remarks • With the upcoming implementation of new protocols and the opening of new sites, we anticipate a busy year for all, including the Site Labs. • Good communication between the site PIs and the Lab Director will ensure the continued success of Project Phidisa.
