    3. Background information In July 2006 The British Paralympic Association (BPA), UK Sport, Youth Sport Trust and Sport England commissioned the development of a framework for athletes with a disability to achieve their potential Shortly after the announcement for London 2012 Shortly after the announcement for London 2012

    4. Background information the Need !!!! Previous lack of guidance around appropriate opportunities, for sports participation for people with a disability Perceived gap within Paralympic Team GB as established athletes retired Lack of clarity especially around pathways for emerging athletes to represent Team GB at 2012 Paralympic Games Research has found that not enough athletes are coming up from local or regional based competitions to engage with performance environments, clubs and squads. Also a significant level of adults who come into disability late in life, are not being provided with information that would enable them to participate in sport. Retiring team and no established pathways Essential if Team GB is to perform well at our home games we need to do something Research has found that not enough athletes are coming up from local or regional based competitions to engage with performance environments, clubs and squads. 5. The Strategy for Delivery What is the Framework A Performance Pathway for Disabled athletes toward the London 2012 Summer Paralympic Games Guided by whom Youth Sport Trust - Schools (schools sports partnerships and specialist schools) Sport England - Community (after schools clubs, clubs, disability networks), SCuK NGBs & Sport Specific delivery (perf & high quality environments) coaching, Regional Squads & Competition links to other NGB funding External networks - HE/FE (Facilities, mentoring) Health - adult identification UK Sport - National squads through the National Competition Framework These Delivery System key partners at strategic national level Following consultation with a wide range of partners and a review of existing programmes and initiatives, a framework has been developed to enhance existing player pathways and provide increased opportunities in sport for disabled participants. The Framework incorporates pathways for disability sport from Schools (schools sports partnerships and specialist schools) led by Youth Sport Trust and the Community (after schools clubs, HE/FE and adult identification through health related networks) led by Sport England. Linking into this are the player and performance pathways from NGBs providing performance environments and high quality coaching (some Club and Coach Funding projects) for identified talented participants to enter County, Regional and National squads through the National Competition Framework delivered in conjunction with UK Sport. These Delivery System key partners at strategic national level Following consultation with a wide range of partners and a review of existing programmes and initiatives, a framework has been developed to enhance existing player pathways and provide increased opportunities in sport for disabled participants. 16. From SSP to County Athlete Assessment & Development Centres From the multi skills and sports a minimum of 10 young disabled people per School Sport Partnership will be identified as demonstrating higher ability in generic skills and recommended to attend the County Athlete Assessment Centres. An additional 5 from Key Stage 2/3 who have demonstrated ability in aquatics will be directed to the appropriate ASA development programmes. Of the identified young people, a minimum of 70% will have a physical or sensory impairment. To run effect CAADC restriction or min on numbers coming from schools in line with target set discussed before There is an expectation from the Framework that because it is driving at 2012 Summer Paralympics Games 70% young people coming from the SSP will have Phy / Sensory impairment (huge task) Challenge for the Delivery system to deliver against the target but also cater for whole of the disability community Challenge we are current working toward with work we are doing with FDSO increase in staff (4x CSP) 2X Regional Dev Officers Deaf and LD.
