  2. The Effects on The Blood Circulatory Systems • Increased circulation which promotes healing and regeneration of cells all over the body • Heart rate is slowed and can benefit clients with blood pressure problems • Removes waste products • Improves interchange of tissue fluids

  3. Effects on Adipose tissue • Aids absorption of tissue fluids • Beneficial to soft fat conditions such as cellulite

  4. Effects of Massage on the Lymphatic System • Petrissage squeezes the lymph from the tissue • Effleurage moves it to the nearest lymph gland where it is filtered • Relieves swelling associated with stagnant lymphatic circulation • General toxin removal is improved • Stimulates production of antibodies, which enhance the immune system

  5. Effects on the Nervous system • The central nervous system is either relaxed or stimulated depending upon the type of massage given. Slow stroking movements will help with relaxation and sleep, where as vigorous movements will stimulated - both improve their function.

Effects on the muscles • Blood flow is increased • Heat generated and stretching action allows fibres to soften and relax, eliminating bands of tension • Enables muscle to function to a maximum • Muscle tone is improved • Pain and tension are relieved • Tension headaches can be relieved through massage of upper back and neck

  7. Effects on the Skin • Increased sebaceous secretions • Sweat gland are stimulated • Desquamation is increased • Skin conditions can be aided • Delays formation of milia • Vaso-dilation of surface capillaries occurs.

  8. Effects on Bones and Joints • Deep massage will increase nourishment to bone • Nourish the structures surrounding the joints • Loosens adhesions around the joints

  9. Effects on the digestive system • Stimulates peristalsis and the movement of food through the colon • Gentle hacking can stimulate secretions and aid digestion • Aids constipation

  10. Psychological effects • Creates a feeling of well being • Increases energy • Increases postural awareness • Contentment • Biochemical healing takes place alleviating anxiety and mental stress
