Christian Aid news • This year the UK has an unique role in the campaign against World Poverty. In July the government is hosting the G8 summit of world leaders and from July to December the UK holds the presidency of the European Union. These decision makers have the power to make global trade work in favour of the world’s poorest communities. 2005 has been designated the year to “Make Poverty History”. • Global Week of Action • The 10th -16th April heralded a Global Week of Action for Trade Justice involving millions of people around the world. The week culminated in an all-night vigil on the Prime Minister's doorstep with a dawn procession past Downing Street. • The beginning of this week (10th April) a special service was held at St Peter's Leckhampton to show our commitment to the campaign and to encourage members of the congregation to "Take Action”, including all of the following: • Send a postcard to Gordon Brown • Buy Fairtrade products - a directory of where these can be purchased in Cheltenham was distributed to members of the congregation! • Wear a white “Make Poverty History” wristband • See below for pictures of our preparation for the service.
