Venezuela HISTORY • Colonized by Spain in 16th century • Declared independence in 1811 • Hugo Chavez-President from 1999-2013 • United Socialist Party of Venezuela • Social welfare system led to economic decline, including hyperinflation and food shortage. • Universal healthcare system collapsed in 2015, impacting mortality rates. • Nearly 4 million people fled the country.

  7. Falkland Islands • Atlantic islands off the coast of Argentina. • Capital is Stanley • Cold climate • English speaking country • Falklands War with United Kingdom- Argentina wanted ownership and invaded unsuccessfully in 1982. • Argentina still disputes British ownership.
