  2. What is a typical day like? • On a typical day, I’ll, first, check the truck (equipment). I make sure that all the paperwork is in order as I wait for a 911 call to come in. I frequently make important decisions concerning that patient’s care and transport them to the appropriate facility.

  3. What are the Innitial and Current Appeals of Being an E.M.T.? • This job interests me because I never know what’s going to happen or who I will meet. I’ve always wanted to be in the medical field because it’s interesting and gives me the opportunity to help people.

  4. What Training Did You Have? • I trained as an E.M.T. Pittsburgh E.M.S. class. I went to Penn State to become a paramedic.

  5. How Could a Student Get Experience? • Any person who is sixteen years old or older can take basic E.M.T. classes and get experience to be in our company.

  6. What do you Like and Dislike About Your Career? • My personal satisfaction comes from being able, and ready to save a life. My job is full of ups and downs, and the opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life. The most challenging part is physical and emotional stress that comes with people’s health.

  7. What Did You Have to do Before Entering This Occupation? • I took first aid/CPR classes before and I have continued my education during employment.

  8. What are the Different Jobs in this Field? • Some of the jobs are… E.M.T. - P.E.M.T – Paramedic P.H.R.N - Pre-Hospital Care Registered Nurse Flight Paramedic with Aeromedical Service STAT/Lifeflight

  9. Why did you Decide to Work for this Company? • I wanted to work for E.M.S. Southwest because it’s a 911 provider and it is close to my home community.

  10. What do you Like Most About your Company? • I mostly enjoy the people I work with and the personal work because it is a relaxed atmosphere.

  11. My job is very exciting. Something new and unexpected happens every day. Every patient presents a new problem or challenge to treat. Exciting? Boring? WHY?

  12. How is your Company Different from Others? • We are different because we are a 911 provider, while others are transport services.

  13. People choose to come to us because we are the local 911 service. Why do people choose your company?

  14. Are you Optimistic About the Company's Future? • I am always optimistic about the future growth. We are continuing to expand our service in areas, such as Greene County, Perryopolis township, and Washington township in Fayette County.

  15. What is the Best Way to Enter this Occupation? • The best way to get into this occupation is to begin with CPR or first aid courses first, and then take E.M.T. classes with a paramedic class.

  16. Keys to Career Advancement? • Continuing education is the key to career advancement, a person needs to have the willingness to learn more about healthcare.

  17. What are the Important Skills for this Position? • The most important skills would include knowledge of health, the body, and physiology. A person needs to be caring, have sympathy, patience, and a sense of adventure.

  18. How Would you Describe the Atmosphere and your Co-Workers? • The work atmosphere is relaxed yet professional. We have a job to do and we have to make a difference.

  19. What is the Average Length of Time for an Employee to Stay? • The job is physical, so as long as you stay healthy and able to deal with stress, a person can stay in this business for as long as they would like.

  20. What are the Salary Ranges? • Starting salary for an E.M.T. is $8.00 per hour. It goes up with experience and seniority. • Paramedics start at $13.50 per hour and it increases. • P.H.R.N. start at $23.25 per hour and it also increases.
