  13. North America What used to be the USA is now the mighty nation of Panem 12 districts surrounding a shining capitol Important* This story has to take place in the future where democracy isn’t existing. Setting: Location

  14. Poverty Dictatorship Trustworthiness Themes

  15. I’d give it 7 out of 10 Overall good book A little too easy to read (makes me feel dumb) Kinda lame ending I just hate Peeta, such a pansy… My rating

  16. (Drumroll) Social issue!!! Corrupt Government

  19. Ka-Poem! Corrupt Government Where Hope is Gold A country of forgotten promisesCounts the carcasses of its citizensWho have died for a cause undefinedWar brings many casualtiesYet it is the favorite weaponOf those corrupt enough to wield itA country separate from religionYet they serve this country under godA country defined by it freedomYet you sign your name on a list to dieCorruptness creates a society of havocA government built form havoc's soul Anarchy seen as Satan's workReligion of tainted soulsCause freedom to lead one's own lifeWould lead to a road paved of goldGovernment turns it back in painful sorrow Written March 29th, 2006 (http://allpoetry.com/poem/1914046)

  21. Involves at least 2 parties Over 50% of people in impoverished countries polled said they have bribed someone in the past year (tranparency.org) Paying officials for safety, or policemen to do their job Bribery

  22. Similar to lobbying Selling one’s political power for money In corrupt governments this happens openly so the rich decide on new laws and such Marketing influence

  23. When gov. officials receive money from unfair bidding Common “white collar crime” in pharmaceutical companies Kickbacks

  24. Basically when you put your family or close friends in seats of power when they’re not necessarily qualified Keeps the power of a country contained with a family, almost like a monarchy I.E. India and the “old boys” Nepotism and cronyism

  25. Funny picture

  26. When a person in power recieves some of the money from gangs Looks the other way for most things Some gang leaders are political leaders as well Organized crime

  27. When an election is turned a certain way illegally Raise vote counts of one candidate or lower the vote counts of an opposing candidate Can be done by intimidation at the polls, faulty counting, or illegal voter registration Voter Fraud

  28. Higher up people support a certain party so they can get a job Often based on loyalty rather than ability Patronage

  29. Government Corruption is all around us Only citizens can stop this vicious cycle I’m not saying burning down a library yelling “stick it to the man” is a good idea But you have to stand up for what's right In conclusion!
