  3. Oklahoma Research $ - 2006 $447,000,000 for 2006 • PUIs – 15% Fed $ • PUIs – 69% students

  4. The 2007 budget shows an increase in federal grant funds. Over 7 years, the federal grant money has increased by 26%.

  5. In 2006, there was an increase in philanthropist giving, or private grants. • Giving by corporate foundations rose by 6% in 2006 to a record $4.2 billion, and 57% of those surveyed said they expect to give more this year. Oklahoma Higher Education System • 23 public Undergraduate Institutions (2 C; 11 U; 12 CC) – 1,500 to 17,000 students • 12 sponsored programs offices (7 U; 4 CC) • 11 are centralized, (3 have 1 FTE; 7 have 2 FTE) • pre-award services + some post-award • 1 decentralized model - 1 FTE/each of 5 colleges • 12 independent colleges & universities – • 2 offices

  11. Now, the GOOD NEWS…. Oklahoma grantsmanship is getting better! In 2004, Oklahoma was 49th in the nation! SOURCE – NSF 2003 • We have a growing grants culture • state conferences: 2004 = 1; 2007 = 6 • national rank 49th to 45th • 2 more sponsored programs offices • 4.0 added FTE • 2 major promotions to VP level • from 4 to 6 UG Research fairs
