  2. Tenon Saw This part of the Tenon saw is called the Back and is made from brass A Tenon Saw is used to cut straight lines

  3. Try Square The handle is made from Rosewood 90 A Try Square is used to draw a line at right angles to an edge

  4. The Mortise Gauge The Mortise Gauge was used to mark out the slot in the top of the money box. Spurs set to width of Chisel / Slot Thumb screw Rosewood body

  5. Mallet This mallet is made from Beech The Mallet was used with the Mortise Chisel to cut the slot in the top of the box. Remember Never use the Mallet to hit anything made from metal ( Pins, Nails or even a Centre Punch) as this will damage the face of the Mallet

  6. Saw Board The Saw Board was used to hold wood while it is being cut with a Tenon Saw This Saw Board is made from Beech

  7. Mortise Chisel The Mortise chisel is used to cut the slot in the top of the money box Ferrule This is a metal ring round the top of the handle that helps prevent the handle from splitting when it is hit with a mallet. Blade The blade has a rectangular section.

  8. Coping Saw A Coping Saw is used to cut curves in wood The teeth on a coping saw should point backwards to minimise blade breakages. Always report any blade breakages to your teacher immediately.

  9. PVA Adhesive The glue used to glue the box together is called PVA Adhesive This type of adhesive is most suitable for gluing wood to wood and takes about 2 hours to cure

  10. Belt & Disk Sander • When using the sander you must • Wear Goggles • Tie any long hair back • Tuck in any loose clothing • Only use the machine one at a time

  11. Hand Drill Countersink Bit The Hand drill can be fitted with a small drill bit (1mm to 8mm) for drilling small holes or a Countersink bit for countersinking holes.

  12. Screwdriver Bit Cordless Drill Keyless Chuck Forward / Reverse Switch On / Off switch The Cordless Drill can be fitted with a drill bit (1mm to 10mm) for drilling small holes, a Countersink bitfor countersinking holes or a Screwdriver bit for driving in screws. Battery Pack

  15. Mortise Machine The Mortise machine was used to cut the slot through the top part of the money box. When using this (or any other machine) it is important to read the safety notice on the wall to make sure you understand how to use the machine safely. When using the Mortise machine you must.. Wear Goggles Tie any long hair back. Tuck in any loose clothing. Make sure the work piece is held securely. Make sure the machine has fully stopped before you remove your work piece.
