  1. Why are Penguins Black & White? By: Summer, Viv, and Philip

  2. A long, long, time ago there lived a girl penguin named Christine.

  3. She was all white and blended into everything! You see, she lived in Antartica, and there is a lot of snow there!

  4. Christine was so tired of blending into everything. She kept getting stepped on, all the time.

  5. One day, Christine decided to go to the beach and get a suntan, so that she would not be sooo white anymore. When she was there, she saw a mean, tricky squid named Squidward there.

  6. Squidward asked Christine if she wanted to be inked and she said no. But he inked her any way. She turned green on her arms and back.

  7. Christine was so upset, she cried. The squid told her if she wanted to change colors she could, but it would cost her 200 fish!

  8. Christine went and caught 200 fish, and gave them to the Squid. He allowed her to change colors and she chose black to be inked with. That is how penguins became black & white!
