Genetic Analysis of Root Traits in SoybeanDr. Abdelmajid Kassem, Fayetteville State University, 07-66 Education: Two undergraduates (Sherrie Ivey and Samedy Lesly-Ann), and a high school student (Charles Royals) contributed to this work. These students grew a RIL population (n=100) of soybean in the greenhouse and in the field, took extensive root traits phenotypic data, analyzed these data using statistical software (WinQTL Cartographer), and participated in writing an abstract and a manuscript for publication. This work will continue beyond summer and C. Royals will join the team in the fall 2007 and spring 2008. Outreach: These projects included mentoring Charles Royals, a high school student in taking care of plants, taking root traits phenotypic data, analyzing data, and assisting in abstract and manuscript preparation.
