  2. Project Objectives Develop recommendations for Los Padres National Forests to: • Increase and improve the quality of the public’s involvement • Increase community collaboration and forest stewardship

  3. Los Padres National Forest • 2 million acres stretching 220 miles from Carmel Valley to Los Angeles County • Limited Project Scope: Communities of Santa Barbara County Santa Barbara County and Los Padres National Forest

  4. Problem Facing Los Padres • Approximately 25 million people live within 2 hours of Los Padres National Forest • Recreational budget down 40% over past 5 years • How do you manage increased recreation use with dwindling resources?

  5. Importance of Community Involvement • Maintains forest recreation management • Provides: • Human resources • Capital resources • Technical resources • Raises communication, awareness and understanding between interest groups
