  3. Friendship Groups • Friendship groups are generally defined as groups who made up of people with similar interests • Who is in your friendship group? • What do you have in common? • Do you have more than one friendship group?

  4. Cliques • Cliques are also friendship groups, but they have:

  5. Extreme control over members (ie. must dress a certain way)

  6. Strict rules about who is allowed in group (We don’t hang with people like that)

  7. Inflexible entry/exit from group (you can’t be with us if your with him/her)

  8. How else can it be damaging?

  9. Is it a clique or a group?

  10. Are you in a group or a clique?

  11. So what is so wrong with being in a clique? • Because cliques are so exclusive, they can be really restricting. In the “real world,” or life after middle school, you will have to communicate with many different kinds of people, especially in college or at work. Learning to talk to people in different groups can help you in the future. Also, you might just make a new friend in the process.
