  2. About me • Started in accessibility in 1998 • Worked on the first accessible Australian web site • Worked as the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games accessibility specialist • Spent six years working on the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, 2.0

  3. Brief introduction to accessibility It allows people with disabilities to: • access information like anyone else • interact with others without being categorised as “disabled” • undertake activities which they are not otherwise able to do

  4. Types of disabilities • Disabilities affecting vision • Disabilities affecting how the mind interprets information • Disabilities affecting movement • Disabilities affecting hearing

  5. Rules and regulations • Australian Human Rights Commission Disability Discrimination Act Web Advisory Notes • Whole of Victorian Government Web Standards: Accessibility Standard Both require conformance with W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, Version 1.0
