Asia Strategy Programme (2005/2009) • 1st phase launched 1998 (1999 – 2004) • €2million provided for various initiatives • Exports increased from €3.6billion to over €6billion • Exports to China increased average 20% annually between 1998/2003 • By 2004 some 96 Irish companies had established • 2nd phase launched following An Taoiseach’s visit to China in Jan 2005 • 8 Priority countries (China, Japan, Korea, Singapore, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam) • Seeking to increase the level of Irish exports to over €9billion • Exports (include services exports) to 8 priority countries already €9.013 billion end 2007 (CSO) • Target of 215 co’s in Asia (220 already established – 80+ in China
