Norse Mythology: Weather (wind, rain, thunder, lightning). Thomas Sostarics. Thor Þōrr. Thor is the Norse God of thunder His hammer, Mjolnir, is what supposedly causes lightning. Thor throws his hammer down to Earth, where lightning strikes where it lands, and returns to Thor.

Thor Þōrr • Thor is the Norse God of thunder • His hammer, Mjolnir, is what supposedly causes lightning. • Thor throws his hammer down to Earth, where lightning strikes where it lands, and returns to Thor. • However, during Ragnarok, Thor was killed by his enemy Jormungand, so how is there still lightning? • Thor is remembered today as the 4th day of the week, Thursday, or, Thor’s Day.

  3. More info on Mjolnir • Mjolnir is a short handled hammer wielded by Thor • It magically returns to its owner when thrown • Lightning strikes with each throw

  4. After Thor’s death • Modi and Magni inherit the Mjolnir hammer, but only Magni is strong enough to wield it • Magni is the god of strength, and is praised whenever feats of power happen • Modi is the god of battle wrath, evident in fierce battle commanders.
