  5. What Companies Can You Buy? • Publicly Traded Companies Only • Generally large corporations such as Coca Cola • Small private companies are not traded

  6. Important Indexes • What is an index? • A stock market index is a method of measuring a stock market as a whole • DOW (Dow Jones Industrial Average) • 13,000 • S & P 500 • 1,500

  7. Why Should I Buy Stocks? • Putting money away in the bank is a safe option • Stocks are risky but can be very rewarding • $10,000 invested in Dell in 1989 • 8.9 Million by 1999

  8. How Does It Work? • Every stock has a symbol • Google (GOOG) • 1 Share of the company will be price x • You can buy as many shares as you want • Ex: $15.00 per share. Buy 100 shares. You invested $1,500 in the company
