  2. What happened: The Lethbridge man wanted by RCMP for an alleged western Canadian crime spree that included ramming a police cruiser was caught early Wednesday morning in Rocky Mountain House. RCMP received a tip on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. that their suspect, Tyler Darrell Leeder, was in a room at the House Motel. When police arrived, a 17-year-old female, was found safe by police near a white Ford F350 that was allegedly use to hit an RCMP vehicle in Irricana over the weekend. The teen had been previously reported missing. The RCMP tactical team, K-9 team and a police helicopter surrounded the motel. “Upon arrival in Rocky Mountain House, emergency response team negotiators were able to make contact with and speak with Mr. Leeder and convince him to surrender,” said RCMP Insp. Frank Smart. “The hotel room in which Mr. Leeder was discovered is believed to have suffered significant damage. However, no member of the public nor any police officers were injured,” said Smart. Leeder, 26, was wanted on warrants for, most recently, ramming a police cruiser in Irricana twice and injuring a police officer on Sunday evening. Leeder was also wanted on Canada-wide arrest warrants for a parole violation and wanted for armed robberies in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. He was released from prison on statutory release for serving two-third of a five-year sentence on 34 charges in various Alberta locations. He was convicted in Medicine Hat in 2007. It’s unknown how long the missing teen was with Leeder but early indications are that she went with him voluntarily. “We’re not going to release the name of this individual, but it’s believed that this individual was perhaps travelling with Mr. Leeder across the provinces,” said Smart. The investigation into his alleged crime spree is ongoing.

  3. The affect on the Community: This story has an affect on our community because many people could have been hurt. With the helicopter flying around from about 11:30pm till about 1:30am was keeping people up whohad work or school in the morning. The police also had to close off a lot of streets in town making it hard to get home if they were blocking the street you happened to live on.

  4. The affect on the nation of Canada: This guy has been stealing from Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta making these companies lose money. Police have been looking for him for some time now.
