SPI 0807:12.1 Electromagnetic Induction Use the right arrow button to advance through the presentation Science Notes Making Electricity Using Magnets • Magnets and a coil of wire can create electrical current • This process is called electromagnetic induction • The magnet has to move through (or around) the coil or The coil has to move through (or around) the magnet • See the diagram below • Notice that the bar magnet is moving through the coil of wire Note: another name for electrical current is electricity Note: another name for a coil of wire is a solenoid Note: Electromagnetic induction is how most electricity is generated Here is a picture of electromagnetic induction in action Here is the solenoid (coil of wire)
