  5. LSEN - Manchester • Established in 2001through the development of Community Empowerment Networks • One of the Thematic Networks of the Community Network for Manchester • Funded initially through Neighbourhood Renewal Funding

  6. Operational Structure • Not constituted at present– managed through a Link Organisation – Commitment in Communties • Overseen by an LSEN Executive Group of elected and co-opted members

  7. Delivery Structure • Membership open to all providers, public, private and third sector – over 550 members across the City at present • Members receive regular email bulletins and encouraged to visit website – www.lsen.org.uk • Quarterly meetings for all on specific issues • Cross sectoral Task Groups established focusing on City Strategy, NLDC, ESOL, Informal Adult Learning, Foundation Leanring

Present areas of work • Contributing to the ESOL Action Plan for the City – in response to the LSC’s “New Approach to ESOL” paper • Providing Quality Improvement and Support Sessions for NLDC Contract holders • Developing a ManchesterThird Sector Consortia • Development of Informal Adult Learning across the City

Adult Informal Learning • LSEN Informal Adult Learning Task Group consulted with membership in 2008 and responded to “Shaping the Future” consultation • Task Group then established a Conference and Manifesto Planning Group late 2008 • Conference held on 19th March 2009 – Building Social Capital through Community Based Learning • Over 120 participants, expert witnesses and good practice groups attended

  10. Towards the Learning Revolution • Building on the Conference established Manchester 360° Partnership – 48 organisations across Manchester

Towards the Learning Revolution • Submitted bid to Transformation Fund for £98,000 (unfortunately unsuccessful – but partnership still working together) • Established Manchester 360° Monthly Email bulletin • Established the Manchester Festival of Learning Website – www.festivaloflearning.org.uk • Successful in drawing down £20,000 for BIS to run over 100 informal learning opportunties during Festival (running throughout October

Next steps • Convert website into monthly Informal Adult Learning Portal site with links to the Adult Advancement Network and Partnership • Develop a co-ordinated bid for funding from the Community Learning Champions bid • Explore links with the successful Future Jobs Fund bid in Manchester (through AGMA of which we are a partner) • Explore development of NVQs in Advice and Guidance
