  5. One of the most important parts of your essay is the Thesis!

  6. The Thesis When you are writing an essay on a subject, your thesis should be your opinion on the topic. It should show your attitude (feeling) towards this situation. After thinking about this subject, what point do you want to make?

  7. States the Thesis introduction • Thesis= opinion+ reasons

  8. States the Thesis introduction • If possible, have at least 3 reasons to support your idea.

  9. Leadership is a key ingredient for success in today’s world. But leadership may be easier to spot than to define. Think about what it takes to be a good leader. Write an essay explaining the qualities of a good leader. Share your reasons for identifying each quality. Be sure to support your ideas with details and examples. THESIS:

  10. The students in your school want to find a way to help people at the nursing home nearby. There are many different ideas circulating about the best thing to do. Write an essay for your school newspaper putting forth your idea about how best to help. Use specific details, examples, and reasons to convince your readers. THESIS:

  16. The Topic Sentence… Usually the first sentence. Lets the reader know what the paragraph will be about.

  17. Good Topic Sentence… My favorite TV Show is The Big Bang Theory. Cancun is a great vacation destination. The teachers teaching this class are the best teacher ever! It is important to eat your green vegetables.

  18. Bad Topic Sentence… The Red Hot Chili Peppers is a popular rock group because they have been around for 20 years and they sell a lot of CDs and concert tickets. There are two reasons why your teachers are a great teachers and two reasons why your teachers are awful teachers. Clouds are white.
