  1. Do Now. You have 5 minutes. 1. Jenny has saved $25 to buy a new pair of shoes. Each month, she saves $5 towards the shoes. Which expression could be used to find the total amount saved after m months? • 5m • 25 + 5m • 25m + 5 • 25m + 5m 2. The cost to rent a laptop from Best Buy is $20 plus $10 per hour. Write an expression to find the total cost for any number of hours.

  2. Today’s Objective SWBAT graph ordered pairs on the coordinate plane.

  3. Introduction to Graphing: terms for those in the know • When graphing points: you can locate a point by using a coordinate system similar to the grid of a park (or Washington, DC) – put up map of Washington, DC. • The grid is called: Coordinate plane • Y-axis: the y-axis the vertical number line • X-axis: the horizontal number line • Quadrants: four sections of the coordinate plane • Origin: the point of intersection of the two number lines

  4. Intro to Graphing: Ordered Pairs • You can graph any point on the coordinate plane by using an ordered pair. (3,2) • The first number in the ordered pair is the x-coordinate. • The second number is the y-coordinate. • Steps to name an ordered pair: 1. Start at the origin 2. Move right to find the x-coordinate 3. Move up to find the y-coordinate

  7. Independent Practice • Pg. 278: 1-11 • Computer users: first take the Review Quiz on Brain Pop; after you have completed this, take the Graded Quiz. Review your answers and write down how many you got correct.

  8. Tonight’s Homework: • Pg. 279: 12 – 33 (odds only) – for the problems that ask you to graph each ordered pair on a coordinate plane, you will need to draw your own coordinate plane.
