Mountain Men

To survive as a Mountain Man in the early 1800s, certain personal qualities and attitudes were essential. Resilience, resourcefulness, and adaptability were crucial for enduring the harsh conditions and unpredictable landscapes of the West. Independence and survival skills, including hunting, trapping, and navigation, were necessary to thrive. A willingness to learn from Native American tribes and respect their knowledge also played a significant role. Understanding the competitive dynamics between nations like Spain, Great Britain, and the United States further shaped their experiences in exploring and settling the West.
