Overcoming BI Challenges: Embracing Simplicity with Microsoft Tools

The Business Intelligence (BI) landscape is fraught with obstacles such as clunky tools, unclear customer requirements, and long delivery times. Organizations, including Notre Dame, are turning to Microsoft BI tools to streamline their processes. With familiar platforms like Excel, pre-existing IT expertise, and integrated infrastructures like SharePoint, these simpler tools facilitate easier data analytics. Adopting the BI 3 Circle Model encourages organizations to think big but start small for effective implementation. Discover how simplicity can lead to significant BI enhancements.

  2. THE BI CHALLENGE 8%

  3. BI OBSTACLES • Clunky and cumbersome BI tools. “I just want a tool that that’s as fast and easy to use as Google.” • Ill-defined BI customer requirements. “It is exactly what I asked for but it is not what I want.” • Long lead times for BI delivery. • Lack of governance. Inconsistent operational definitions and business rules.

  4. SIMPLER BI TOOLS • Notre Dame has opted to go with Microsoft BI Tools because: • We think they are simpler for our customers. Most already use Excel for data analytics • Central IT has a lot of experience with Microsoft BI tools (and so do many of our decentralized IT staff) • We already own the licensing for the Microsoft tools • We already have the necessary infrastructure in place e.g. SharePoint
