  1. Common TELL1 installation

  2. Motivation • Lots of common problems • Harmonize installation (cable guide etc…) • Speed up comssioning • Hardware and Software aspect • https://edms.cern.ch/document/684292/1 (Laurent) • https://edms.cern.ch/document/694314/1 (me) Niko Neufeld CERN, PH

  3. Goal • Install all TELL1 crates (and boards) • cable TTC fibres, throttle-signal, 4 Gigabit Ethernet links, 1 CCPC-Ethernet • run test-suite to check all connections downstream from the TELL1 • Hand completely tested system over to SD-responsibles Niko Neufeld CERN, PH

  4. Draft procedure • The following patch connections will have to be made in D2: • All connections in D2C08 to the controls-PC (typically one) • All connections in D2D04 and D2D06 (data), up to 80 to a switch[1] [[switches?]] which is connected to one DAQ-PC • The crate can be powered on. The CCPCs will boot automatically from the control-PC [[do we need to define how many / which hard-ware address we expect?]]. • The successful start of the all DIM servers on the CCPCs will be checked • All CCPCs will be instructed to run a test-program for purely internal tests [[is this needed? What should be tested?]]. • For each TELL1, the TFC will be instructed to send test-sequences, the correct reception will be reported back. Niko Neufeld CERN, PH

  5. Draft Procedure / 2 • The CCPCs will be instructed to assert the Throttle [[under various conditions?, which?]], this will be checked in the TFC system • The DAQ switches are configured [[can this be done only once, or does it depend on the number of ports?]]. The DAQ-PC will be instructed to “ping” all ports and receive the traffic back, details on this are in section. Data integrity and correct packet-counts will be checked. [[Is a crosscheck with the switch counters needed?]] • The crate-control system will be instructed to the pull the reset-line. The time until all DIM servers are up will be measured. • [[Any Other Test?]] It is not obvious that the final DAQ switch will already be in place, even though this would be ideal. If we do not have the patch cables in D2 must be moved every time. Niko Neufeld CERN, PH
