There are two classifications of Igneous rocks • Plutonic rocks which have mineral grain sizes that are visible to the eye • Volcanic types which are usually too fine-grained or glassy for their mineral composition to be observed without the use of a microscope.

Magma is called lava when it reaches the earth's surface. Lava cools quickly and forms igneous rocks.
