  1. Indicators and pH Chemical substances called indicators are used to determine if a substance is an acid or a base. Indicators are substances whichchange colour according to thepHof a solution. ThepHorhaupūof a substance indicates how acidic it is. The pH scale ranges from 0 (highly acidic) to 14 (highly basic).
