  3. Accomplishments: • Conquered the Aztecs • Built Mexico City which became the capital of New Spain. • Inspired other Spaniards to come to the Americas.

  5. Accomplishments: • Observed and mapped the coast of Texas.

  6. Explorer: Narvaez Country: Spain Date: 1527 or 1528 Area Explored: Area between Florida and Mexico

  7. Accomplishments: • First Europeansto enter Texas.

  8. Explorer: De Vaca Country: Spain Date:1527 Area Explored: Galveston Island area

  9. Accomplishments: • Lived with the Karankawa Indians for 6 years. • Became known as shaman. • Passed along tales of cities filled with magnificent houses and lands rich with copper, emeralds, and turquoise.

  21. Accomplishments: • Claimed all land around the Mississippi River for the King of France. • Built Fort St. Louis in Texas. • Gave the French a claim to Texas.
