  1. Reviewing • Go to Help / Microsoft Word Help / What’s New and select some text and paste into a new document (File / New) • Make five spelling and punctuation errors. • Check that the Reviewing toolbar is showing (View / Toolbars (check Reviewing) • Click the Track Changes button so it is in (move your mouse across the icons and balloon help will indicate the name of the button) • Fix all the errors • Highlight a phrase, click the comments icon on the toolbar and insert a comment. • Save as ***review, where the *** are your initials

  2. Mail Merge Parent Letter • Create Excel Document with Columns: Name, Address, City, State, Zip. Fill in 3 rows of data. • Save to Desktop as mm • Open Word / File / Project Gallery / Choose Letter Wizard (leave Recipient tab blank) • Tools / Data Merge Manager • Main Document - Create • Data Source – Get Data / Open Data Source / (find Excel file) • Ignore Word Field • Merge Field – drag and drop data onto Main Document • Preview – Click <<ABC>> and cycle records • Save as ***mm • Merge – Merge to New Document • You can edit each letter in the merged document and/or print

Getting and Editing Images • Open Safari and go to www.nasa.gov (47th anniversary) • Right click on collage image and choose “Save Image to Desktop” • Double click image (it opens in Preview) • Place cursor at upper left of small image you want and click and drag to lower right • Tools / Crop • Tools / Image Correction • Save as ***image • File / Grab / Selection • Note: On the PC you have Photo Editor

  4. Project Gallery and Newsletters • Open MS Word and Select Newsletters from the Project Gallery (File / Project Gallery) • Select Rule • Edit Information • Select image • Insert / Image • Choose NASA image you cropped • Edit text

Newsletters from Scratch • Open MS Word / Blank Document • Format / Columns (choose 2) • Go to Help / Microsoft Word Help / What’s New and select some text • Type the word “text” in the empty document and format it to font size 10 • Edit / Paste Special (unformatted text) • Insert / Break / Column Break • Go to the end of your text and press return twice. Insert / Break / Section Break (Continuous) • Format / Columns (choose 3)

Newsletters from Scratch (cont) • Type the word “text” in your document and format it to font size 8 • Use Edit / Paste Special again to add unformatted text • Insert / Break / Column Break (twice for 3 columns do divide text evenly) • Insert / Picture / Clip Art or From File • Resize by grabbing handle on lower right of the picture and dragging to the desired size. Make the picture smaller than the text region. • Right Click / Format Picture / Layout (choose tight wrapping) • To move the picture, first select it and then drag and click or use arrow keys for fine adjustment • Save as ***news

  7. Fun with MS Word • Select a text block in your document • View / Toolbars / Speech • Click to icon to read selected text • View / Notebook Layout • Record your message • Play it back
