  3. Egyptian Gods • Who remembers what Polytheism means? • The belief in many gods • Egyptians, unlike the Sumerians, were polytheistic. • Write a paragraph comparing and contrasting the different religion styles of the Ancient Hebrews and the Ancient Egyptians

Ra: The Egyptian’s sun god • He was the lord of all the gods. • He was usually shown in human form with a falcon head, crowned with the sun disc encircled by the a sacred cobra. • Horus: • He who is above • Appearance: man with the head of a hawk or falcon • Job: Guards the pharaohs • Stands for good, truth, justice

Egyptian Religion • Ancient Egyptians believed that the afterlife was… effected by life on earth • Egyptians would enjoy all of the things that they had loved in life • Those who had lived good lives would be allowed to live forever • If you had lived a poor life with sinful choice you would be destroyed forever

Mummies • The second way Egyptians prepared for the afterlife was preserving their bodies after death. • Egyptians believed a person had 2 spirits • Wealthy Egyptians had their bodies made into mummies • A mummy is a body preserved by a special process. • From these preserved bodies, scientist today have learned a great deal about life and death in ancient Egypt • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMs_IGKxMu0

  7. Mummy Activity • Trace the mummy in your notebook and then color it. Around the body include 10 facts about mummies you find from your text book or your notes • Write a 5-7 sentence paragraph for the Think About It section • Do all of this in your notebooks, you may not write on this!

  8. Homework • Ancient Egypt Study Guide • This is due Monday • I gave it to you today in stead of Friday so you have plenty of time to work on it before it is due. • Be very specific, use complete sentences, no listing people or names of places • This MUST be turned in and is for a grade!
