Adaptive Leadership • Is a set of strategies and practices that can help organizations and the people in them break through gridlocks, accomplish deep change and develop the ability to thrive in complex, competitive, and challenging environments. (Ron Heifetz) • Active a leader mindset • Identify the expendable from the essential to address the challenges

  3. Indicators of Adaptive Challenges • When there is a CRISIS; it’s been adaptive in the past but needs to be readdressed properly. It comes back up because it needs adjustments. • i.e. The Future, the economy right now, and the The Great Depression • When there is PRESISTENT CONFLICT; address the conflict and find its underlying issue to produce a solution • When and organization or person starts TEACHING new things to people.

The Break Down • Adaptive leaders can differentiate whether they are dealing with an adaptive challenge or one that is mechanical/technical • Adaptive Challenges • You go outside your normal thinking and normal organization structure to create a solution to a problem or situation • “The people are also apart of the problem and as a leader you address that and encourage changes” Ronald A Heifetz

Mechanical (M) vs. Adaptive (A) Mechanical Adaptive Attention is focused on value-added outcomes Contacts are open and networks are encouraged to form Achievement, innovation and change are sought and rewarded. Attention is focused on activities Contacts are confined and communication is channeled by higher management Efficiency and perdictablility are sought and reinforced

Adaptive Me (Kyrsta) Characteristics of an Adaptive Leader • Strategically influence their environments and orgs so they are well positioned competitively • Respect the diverse views of others prior to making decisions • Willing to experiment and take risk • A Fan of innovation ideas Characteristics of Kyrsta • Amongst my org peers and friends I have lead them to think outside the box when it came to HSC and ways to re-evaluate ones self and to cope with any failures in order to seek a solution to be successful. • I seek the insight of others before I make any big decisions. ( HSC, Life, Business Vent.) • Taking a risk and putting my passion and talent out for sell (Business Vent.)
