  2. What is Hydro-Electric Energy Hydropower is a renewable energy source. It works by taking water from a nearby body of water and use it to spin a generator witch makes energy. That energy is then transferred to our homes and buildings.

  3. How Hydro-Electric Works • A dam is built to hold water • Sluice gates are used to stop the water from going down the pipes • The pressure of the water spins a generator witch charges coils and magnets to create electricity

  4. AdvantagesAdvantages • Electricity can be produced constantly • Electricity can easily be stopped if no more is needed • Dams stay stable for a long time • Water behind the dam allows pleasure activities • Does not produce green house gasses

  5. Disadvantages • Extremely expensive to build dams • Could flood natural land • Risks people who live near the dam • Building dams changes water level • Could kill animals that live under water

  6. Facts about Hydro-electric • Hydro-electric power is a clean source of energy that doesn’t pollute the environment • The first time hydro power was generated was in 1882 • Lester Allan Pelton first thought of hydro power • Most dams cost about $300,000,000to $450,000,000

  7. Thanks for watching
