  2. What is hydro-electric power? Hydro-electricity is one of the many energy sources used around the world. It is a form of energy that uses the force of moving water to generate electricity. Hydropower is used by building dams to trap the water.

  3. Where Is the best place to build a dam? One of things you need to remember when building a dam - is the location! The dam must be build near valleys and rivers.The land can’t be flat, or there is no way to build a dam. Dams can also built on rivers. Even though most dams are build to generate electricity, some dams are there just built to control flooding or to irrigate farm land.

  4. Advantages • When it is in use, electricity produced by dam systems, does not produce any pollution in the atmosphere. • Hydropower can be used throughout the world. • It is renewable. • Hydropower is always available, specially when there is a great need for electricity.

  5. Disadvantages • Hydropower can impact water quality and flow. It can cause low dissolved oxygen levels in the water. • Failures of large dams, would be great disaster because it could kill so many people and could leave people homeless. • Building a large dam will flood a very large area upstream, which will cause problems for animals that used to live there. • The fishes would get killed by the turbines. • The land around the dam can be destroyed.

  6. Facts • Hydro-electric is also known as hydropower. • Hydropower is a renewable energy because it's replenished naturally by rainand snow. • It doesn’t cause pollution. Green and clean!! • It is the cheapest way to generate electricity. • Hydropower is from the Greek word “hudor” meaning water.

  7. More facts • Hydropower is one of the oldest source of energy. The Ancient Egyptians used water wheels to turn clocks and grind grain as early as 250 B.C. • Canada is the largest producer of hydropower in the world. The United States is second.
