Any Accidents or Injuries…? • PLEASE REMEMBER TO REPORT IMMEDIATELY !! • Reporting injuries immediately is the optimal way to save time, money, and your associates!  If you have questions please contact Risk Management at 757-989-2724. • Workers' Compensation claims must be reported online,  via HR Manager Self Service. • Send supporting documentation for claims to 757-989-2501 OR accident.claims@ferguson.com

  4. Global Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) • DEADLINE FOR TRAINING MODULES IS MARCH 15TH 2012

GHS Training Updated training modules are now available in Enterprise Learning Management (ELM).  Below is the training schedule to each module: • OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) - Hazcom • All associates must complete the new training between November 28, 2012, and March 15, 2013.  • DOT  (Department of Transportation) – Hazmat (Must also complete the OSHA Hazcom training) • All supervisors, managers, leads, delivery drivers and warehouse associates handling hazardous material must complete the new training between November 28, 2012, and March 15, 2013.  Who has taken the training??

  6. New Labels for Hazardous Materials (GHS) Locations shipping chemical product via delivery driver or common carrier must obtain the new Limited Quantity labels prior to January 28, 2013* *e-mail (From Risk Management) went out on 1/18/2013 to all branch managers, etc..

  7. What is a “Limited Quantity” label? • Limited Quantity label is a marking for mail or shipping in the United States that identifies other regulated materials for domestic transport only. • Packages bearing this label or mark contain hazardous material in a limited quantity that presents a limited hazard during transportation, due to its form, quantity, and packaging. • Material marked with a “Limited Quantity" Label and shipped by surface transportation do not require hazardous shipping papers, simply a “Limited Quantity” label and proper shipping name marking on the box.

Limited Quantity labeling… • Each shipping package requires 2 labels – one on each side • If shipping full case quantity, the ORM-D label must be covered with the new Limited Quantity label • The proper shipping name and the label MUST be the same, as required by regulations. • Basically, you cannot have one proper shipping name on the bill of lading and a different label on the actual package. • Trilogie and WMS systems will automatically update this change, effective February 5, 2013

  11. 2012 OSHA Recordkeeping… • The OSHA 300A Annual Summary form must be posted in the location from February 1 to April 30.  • Locations must retain the OSHA 300 recordkeeping forms for five years. • Please refer to the Risk Management webpage for a list of injuries and illnesses by location that occurred during calendar year 2012 to verify all OSHA recordable injuries and illnesses are accurately recorded.

  12. 2012 OSHA Recordkeeping… • This spreadsheet is password protected.  • Use password OSHA2012 to access this spreadsheet. • Please ensure that injuries involving temporary associates are manually added to your log. • I will send out job aids for assistance in creating, printing, and saving your OSHA 300 recordkeeping forms. • Please contact mandy.gregory@ferguson.com with any further questions.

Management versus Leadership… Management and Leadership may seem like the same thing, but there are some key differences that are important to consider… • Managers manage things which means basically that they control, direct and count. • Leaders lead people which means they inspire and influence others to behave in certain ways…

Management • As a manager you’re responsible for managing lots of things such as… • Schedules… • Expenses… • Sales… • And eliminating unsafe conditions… • Such as making sure traffic areas are free of debris, making sure vehicles & equipment meets safety standards, etc.. Being an effective manager is essential to having a safe and efficient branch.

  16. ‘Can Do’ • In terms of Safe Behavior… • Management tends to focus on the ‘Can Do’ side of behavior – the things you can manage are things that assure your associates ‘Can Do’ their jobs correctly and safely. • One of the necessary principles as managers to work towards is no ‘Unsafe’ conditions and no ‘Unsafe’ behaviors. • But how do we do that?

  17. Training – How Skills are Taught… • Our responsibility is to determine whether or not associates ‘Can Do’ their job. And while education is for providing knowledge or information, training is for mastering skills…. • Effective training follows a four-step process. • Providing information, including the benefit of learning the skill • Demonstrating the skill • Allowing the person to practice the skill • Providing encouragement and feedback
