This guide provides clear examples and explanations of active and passive voice in English. It illustrates how to recognize the subject and the action in sentences. For example, in the active voice, "John is calling the other members," the subject (John) performs the action. In the passive voice, "Should these contracts be signed by the manager?" the focus shifts away from the doer. Understanding these structures is crucial for effective communication and grammar mastery.
E N D
Note: if the doer (someone, somebody, someone, somebody, etc) is as a subject in active so in the passive the doer like that is not necessary to write. e.g. Someone has stolen my phone cell in a train. My phone cell has been stolen in a train.
Exercise • John is calling the other members • Should these contracts be signed by the manager? • The fire has caused considerable damage • Thirty houses were not destroyed by the tornado • The company orders some new equipment • The president should have been called this morning.
