The Beginnings • The Ad Hoc Sustainability Committee learned that: • Several Middleton residents are currently driving to Madison to garden on community plots • Community Action Coalition has received several inquiries about community gardening opportunities in Middleton • In the Parks and Open Space Plan update, every response to the question “What other types of parks would you like to see?” mentioned a community garden

  3. Why a Community Garden? • Provides a nutritional resource and reduces family food budgets • Supports neighborhood and community-building opportunities including intergenerational and cross-cultural connections • Encourages self-reliance • Conserves resources and promotes sustainability • Creates opportunity for recreation, exercise, therapy, and education

  4. Selecting a Site • Under-utilized space • Public Land • Space that is located near multi-family living (apartments, condominiums, and duplexes) • Space that is located near lower-income families • Space that is near a water supply • Space that receives a minimum of 4-6 hours of direct sunlight per day

  5. Sites Considered • The Ad Hoc Sustainability Committee reviewed several sites; including: • Highland Way (Bock Forest) • Parisi Park • Elm Lawn Elementary • Orchid Heights • Quarry Skate Park • Mary St. E-Way • Middleton High School • Parmenter Circle • West of Tiedeman • Behind the Library • Lakeview Park
