Network Technology Area • Satellite-Internet Working Group Current Status • The applications and experiments use the satellite network of the Asain Internet Interconnection Initiatives (AI3) • Background of AI3 • - started by WIDE project and JSAT in Oct 95 • - establishment of technology with regards to international Internet connection via satellite • - future infrastructure within Asia • AI3 Partners • Ku-bandC-band • Japan Singapore • Hong Kong Malaysia • Thailand China • Philippines • Vietnam

Network Technology Area • Satellite-Internet Working Group Issues • Waiting for AI3 project to begin the C-band satellite link that is scheduled to start in Jan 99 • Projects that will be implemented: • - VSAT-Internet research: ATM via satellite • BER over atmospheric conditions • Asymmetri Link • - Internet networking: Multicasting • Hierarchical Proxy • - Application research: TeleEducation

  5. Network Technology Area • Satellite-Internet Working Group Infrastructure at Singapore Temasek Polytechnic will set up and operate the Singapore AI3 VSAT Earth Station located at its campus.This satellite gateway is linked to all the local partners through S-ONE network.
