  2. Project Management Outline

  3. Customer Needs • 1. Have a better chair Design (.44) • 1.1 Comfortable • 1.2 Easy to get in and out of the chair • C.1 Same # of chairs • 2. Better Aisle Spacing (.2) • 2.1 Easy access to seats • C.2 Enough room behind seats • C.3 Walls cannot be changed • 3. Sufficient Leg room (.14) • 3.1 Horizontally • 3.2 Vertically • 4. Sufficient Writing Space (.06) • 5. Good Lighting (.03) • 4.1 Natural light • F.1 Variable controls • 6. Good Acoustics (.03)

  4. Problem Statement • Redesign room so that the comfort of the students is maximized with out altering the parameters of the room or seating capacity. Namely, by adjusting the seats, aisles, and leg room as designated most important by the customer. The overall goal is to create the best learning environment for Penn State Students and Professors.

  5. Concepts • Board: 1. White board 2. Current black board • Chair Design 1. Chair with smaller attached individual desks 2. Individual movable Chairs • Writing Space: 1. Long tables 2. Individual desks 3. Double person desks 4. Curved desks

  6. Concepts • Legroom: 1. Remove backboard of desk 2. Lengthen the width of the desks • Board Visibility 1. Raised Stadium seating 2. Staggered Seating • Aisle Spacing 1. Take space off from the back and front of the classroom. 2 . Add more desks to each row and have one less row.

  14. Engineering Analysis &Bill of Materials • Desk-$360/desk X 18 desks=$6,480 • Chair-$15/chair X 84 chairs=$1,260 • Carpet-1500sqft X $2.22/sqft=$3,333 • 12X4 Whiteboard-$515 per X2=$1,030 • Floor rebuild-$6,000 (approx.) • Labor-$20/hour X 5 workers X 40hrs=$4,000 (approx.) • Total= $22,103 • We feel this is a reasonable cost for renovation Refrences: “Carpet Pricing.” Emire Today. 15. Conclusion • Overall we feel as if we successfully designed a room which conduces a good learning environment. • All of the constraints and objects of our problem statement were adequately addressed. • As a group we learned some of the necessary skills for coordinating an engineering project.
