Introduction • Subject of the discussion is application of SBRA method in reliability analysis of a beam exposed to time-dependent corrosion effects. • The inspections planning and application of evaluated inspection data can lead to more precise estimate of the actual structure lifetime – as is demonstrated on the following example.
Example assignment • Simply supported steel beam exposed to time-dependent corrosion effects:
A priori estimates of load components • Time-dependent random variable load components:
A priori estimate of section modulus • Time-dependent random variable section modulus:
A-priori estimate of resistance and load effects referring to bending • The relation of time-dependent resistance and time-dependent load effects:
Calculation of the probability of failure Reliability function RFcorresponding to timeT=25 years:
The probability of failure estimates Time-dependent probability of failure estimates:
Summary and conclusion • The utilization of SBRA method in the framework of structural engineering design can be extended to reliability analysis of structures exposed to time-dependent degradation processes. • The presented approach allows to propose inspection intervals and, using the evaluated data, more precise estimate the actual safe lifetime of the structure.
