  1. WELCOME TO AVENTA STUDENT TRAINING! • Welcome to Aventa Learning – and welcome to online learning. Once you begin, you’ll find that online learning is easy, fun and feels familiar. • We’ve created this Student Toolkit to give you the tools for success in your online class. • You definitely won’t be alone as you navigate your online learning journey. For in-person support, look for Mr. Miner who can answer questions right and be at your virtual side to provide guidance and help steer you to success. • Let’s get started!

  2. What is AVENTA training? • AVENTA Learning delivers online courses to middle and high school students in partnership with schools that allows for you to earn credit at an accelerated rate.

  3. What will I learn while I’m here? • You will have class from 4PM – 5PM every Tuesday and Thursday. Most of you are taking Geography with me. Remember, I will not be teaching this course, you already have an online instructor who gives out grades. I will be assisting you as you go through your course to help you complete it.

  4. What do successful online students do?

  5. Student’s First Day • When students first log in, they should: • Review the entire Orientation course (found on Aventa Homeroom, along with their regular course) • After reviewing the Orientation course, students should log in to their regular course and find the Orientation unit within their course.

  6. Credit Recovery

  7. Navigating Credit Recovery • Aventa’s CR courses assume students have some prior knowledge of the content. • Each unit begins with an introduction. After reading the introduction, students click “Mark Reviewed” to open up the first section’s quiz. • Each section begins with a quiz and the first attempt on the quiz acts like a pre-assessment.

  8. Credit Recovery Courses These courses are designed for students that have been exposed to the subject before but for a variety of reasons were not able to receive credit. They provide the opportunity for students to complete coursework and receive full credit for a class in a timely manner.

  9. Unit Exams All CR Unit exams are password protected Instructors will NOT give passwords to students, only to mentors The complete listing of passwords is available in the Mentor Resource Center. Mentors should encourage students to study for the unit exams by reviewing content material.

  10. Communication with the Online Instructor

  11. Teacher Communication Teachers need and want frequent communication with both students and mentors Mentors, please check your email regularly for instructor communication If you know of a situation where a student will be away for any length of time, please inform the instructor!

  12. Ways Teachers Communicate Emails to students and mentors Course Announcements Elluminate Live!

  13. Completing the Course

  14. Final Grade Reports • When a student reaches their end date an automatic final grade report will be emailed to the course instructor • The course instructor will verify the report. • Once verified, the course instructor will enter the student’s final grade

  15. Issuing Final Grades The Final Grade Reporting process CAN take up to 5 business days from the end date Grades are reported to schools as course averages Schools interpret the average and transcribe grades

  16. Student Support

  17. Helpful Hints! Students should not “skip around” in their courses. Make sure they know that they need to complete course work in order. Have students keep a notebook when they take notes for a section. Make sure students know that they CANNOT move away from a quiz or test once they begin. If students get locked out of a quiz or exam, have them email or call student support helpdesk.

  18. Common Student Issues Locked quiz or test This happens when the quiz/exam is not properly submitted To unlock, request from Student Support helpdesk or course instructor Trouble Submitting Assignment Directions are found in Orientation course Additional “how-to” document located in Mentor Resource Center Cannot view picture or link will not work Report issue to Student Support helpdesk
